Cross-cultural/international-themed theatrical offerings in San Diego include The Remarkable Mister Holmes at North Coast Rep, Spring Awakening at Ocean Beach Playhouse, Here Are the Blueberries at La Jolla Playhouse's Potiker, and Head Over Heels by Junior Theater at Balboa Park's Casa del Prado Theater. This Sunday A Midsummers Night's Dream will open at the Old Globe. Performances for As You Like It have begun at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Point Loma. Friday (Today) and Saturday, a Heiva San Diego Celebration will take place at the Flower Fields in Carlsbad. At the Japanese Friendship Garden in Balboa Park, there will be a two-day Toro Nagashi Festival. Mozart's opera La Finta Giardiniera (The Pretend Gardener) will be performed at Bread & Salt. Indian comedian Zarna Garg will perform at the Laugh Factory. Saturday, the San Diego Soul Food Fest will take place on University Avenue (near the 15). The Storytellers of San Diego will present a Benefit for the House of Ukraine at the International Cottages in Balboa Park. The Summer Shakes(peare) Performance Workshop continues at Liberty Station. Island Mist will perform at the International Cottages in Balboa Park. There will be a Nortenos and Bandas Fest at Pechanga Arena featuring several Mexican bands. Warwick's will host an online talk with author Moshin Hamid who will discuss his book The Last White Man. The Little Italy Summer Film Series will continue at Amici Park with a screening of Oci Ciornie (Dark Eyes) starring Marcello Mastroianni. A multi-media presentation entitled Bob Marley in the Underworld will be presented at the Arbor View Theater in La Mesa. Sunday, the House of Italy will host its annual Lawn Program where you can enjoy Italian food, music, and dance. At Salt Drift Pointe in Imperial Beach, Festival Tapatio will be a tribute to Guadalajara and Jalisco with Mariachi, Ballet Folklorico, Tequila, Food & Art. There will be a Jamaican Independence Day Celebration featuring Jamaican-style fried fish on University Avenue. The La Jolla Music Society will present Weekend in Paris: Beg, Borrow and Steal featuring works by French composers. Monday and Tuesday, the English film The Full Monty will be screened at Cinema Under the Stars. Monday, Filipino performance organization PASACAT will hold a Dance Concert at the Mingei. Next Thursday, the Spanish language film Oblatos, el Vuelo Que Surcó la Noche Will Be Shown at the Digital Gym. Next Saturday, the Summer Shakes(peare) Performance Workshop continues at Liberty Station. The San Diego International Children's Film Festival will take place at the SD Central Library. At the Bonita Museum & Cultural Center, you can learn how to make your own Accordion Book for Dia de los Muertos/Day of the Dead. The 8th Annual Island Vibe Music Festival will take place at Spanish Landing. Selena will, once again, be shown atop the Manchester Grand Hyatt downtown. The musical film Le Bal, which tells its story through music and dance numbers, will be shown at Amici Park for the ongoing Little Italy summer film series. The lovely film Coco will be shown outdoors at the Mingei. Next Sunday, the always marvelous Philippine Cultural Arts Festival (now in its 35th year!) produced by and featuring the Filipino arts organization, Samahan, will take place in Balboa Park. The San Diego Middle Eastern Dance Association will host their annual SAMEDA Faire at the Banker's Hill Club. The House of Panama will host its annual Lawn Program at the International Cottages in Balboa Park. The San Diego International Children's Film Festival Teen Program will be held at the Digital Gym featuring short films from around the world. At ReBru Spirits, San Diego Latin dance band Maracuyá will present a Summer Fiesta celebrating "music, dance, culture, and life." Roots Reggae band SM Familia will give a free outdoor concert at Kate Sessions Park in La Jolla. Farhad Bahrami's Electric Ûd Trio will perform at the Iranian Cultural Center along with special guest Dr. Hafez Modirzadeh.
